EOCS Doctors Support Veterans at Patriot Ball
Some of the doctors from the Eastern Ohio Chiropractic Society (EOCS) were able to attend the 2017 Patriot Ball. The Patriot Ball is one of the fundraising events hosted by the Patriot Project, a grass roots movement to provide chiropractic care to active military, veterans, wounded warriors, and gold star dependents.
Chiropractic care is highly underutilized by our veterans. Many veterans are pushed into a system of prescription drugs or many believe in living with the pain. Until a few years ago, the VA was treating veterans’ chronic pain almost exclusively with prescriptions for opioid painkillers2.
Veterans have also been caught up in the opioid epidemic. About 60 percent of those returning from deployments in the Middle East, and 50 percent of older veterans suffer from chronic pain, according to Veterans Affairs officials2. That’s compared to about 30 percent of Americans nationwide2.
The goal of this organization is to create a USO-type chiropractic tour to provide care to military bases around the U.S. and overseas.
